Lima Group member countries have categorically rejected the threat of Nicolas Maduro illegitimate regime's National Constituent Assembly to unconstitutionally call for early elections for Venezuela's National Assembly, the only legitimate and democratically-elected institution.

In this sense, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Santa Lucia, and Venezuela indicated that any threat —made by Maduro's illegitimate regime or the National Constituent Assembly— against the National Assembly represents an open challenge against democracy and the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

Likewise, the group pointed out Maduro's regime continues to systematically disrupt the Venezuelan institutions, adding this attempt to call for early elections and the lifting of parliamentary immunity of four National Assembly lawmakers are proof of a violation of democratic rules, as well as of the rule of law and the Bolivarian Nation's Constitution.

Finally, the Lima Group calls for the international community to speak as one voice and demand the stop of these provoking, as well as desperate actions of Maduro's illegitimate regime
